National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)
Since 2004, NIOS had a cumulative enrollment of over 2 million students. In fact, according to current statistics, about 350,000 students enroll with the board, making it the largest open schooling system in the world. NIOS also has collaborations with the UNESCO and the COL (Commonwealth of Learning). It has various study centers for non-resident Indians in Oman, UAE, Bahrain, Nepal, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Singapore, Malaysia and the United States of America.

Vocational courses are courses which are tailored for a specific industry or trade. Unlike the other traditional courses, vocational courses are based on the apprenticeship system, where students learn through on-the-job training.
NIOS Examination Timeline
The National Institute of Open Schooling conducts its public exams twice a year – during April-May and October-November. However, candidates who have sought admission for subject-wise learning can opt for On-demand Examination. These are held for secondary level and senior secondary levels. The result for these is usually announced six to seven weeks after the date of examination.

NIOS Admission
NIOS Admissions are conducted twice a year, usually between April-May (Block 1) and October-November (Block 2). However, interested candidates must enroll themselves as early as possible; late enrollment can attract late fees.
